How to Get Her

I watched Pendo across the table as she took a sip of her lemon drink. I could feel Mimi, Nankya and Sweetie’s eyes on me but I ignored them.

Pendo looked up, as though sensing that I was watching her. Then meeting my eyes, she looked away.

I smiled and kept my gaze on her. Then I noticed her becoming tense as Sweetie looked at me with sultry, provocative eyes. I tried to ignore her as she ran her tongue over her sensuous lips.

“So ladies, tell me…what do you do?” I asked trying to start a conversation.

Mimi was the first to speak. She said she was a human resource manager. Nankya was an administrative assistant. As Pendo began talking to me, Sweetie got up and came to where I was seated.

She wound her arms around my neck and whispered into my ears.

“It’s getting late. We need to get going.”
“Ladies, Sweetie tells me I should let you go home now. Do you agree?”
“Thank you for the evening, Chris. But I think she is right. It’s getting late,” Pendo said.

My attempts to get her jealous were working.

Good.

“No, Sweetie. Let me drop you off at Bukoto and then Pendo and I will go to Ntinda. Besides, I’m not sleeping at Bukoto tonight. I’m staying over at a friend’s in Ntinda.”
“Is it a woman?”
“And if it is?”
“Well, good for you.”
“Do I get the impression that you’re ticked about it?”
“Me?” Sweetie said, forcing a smile. “I’m not.”

By this time, we were already in Bukoto. I pulled over to the side of the road so that she could get off.

“Chris…there is something I need to tell you. Can we talk about it over coffee at my house tonight?” Sweetie asked with a musical lilt in her voice that made me go weak.
“Is it that important?” I said trying to be cool.
“Yes, it is,” she said in a whisper.

With that, she had won.

We dropped off Pendo in Ntinda and then I headed for Bukoto together with her.

The next morning, I found myself lying on her bed. I don’t know how it happened because one minute we were talking and the next…
